Alexander Hamilton PPDS, 3.75" x 4", dated January 4, 1792. Signed by Hamilton as "Alexander Hamilton", Secretary of Treasury. Repaired at bottom only affecting the "r" of Alexander and part of "Ha" of Hamilton, along with a small amount of printed text. A phenomenal important piece signed by Hamilton in the midst of the financial crisis. In December 1790, Hamilton called for the creation of the Bank of the United States, and in February 1791 President George Washington signed the charter allowing it to open. However within the year the US was reeling from a financial credit crisis that occurred during the months of March and April 1792. Created by the expansion of credit by the newly formed Bank of the United States as well as by rampant speculation, numerous prominent bankers attempted to drive up prices of US debt securities and bank stocks. But when they defaulted on loans prices fell, causing a bank run. Simultaneous tightening of credit by the Bank of the United States served to heighten the initial panic. Secretary of Treasury Alexander Hamilton was able to deftly manage the crisis by authorizing the purchase of $150,000 of public debt in New York to be covered by governmental revenues. He provided banks across the Northeast with the necessary funding to make open-market purchases of securities, which allowed the market to stabilize by May 1792.

Samuel Dexter, ALS, 7.75" x 11", dated "24 Sept 1800" with War Department letterhead. Signed by Dexter as "Saml Dexter". Letter confirms the ship "Adriana … has on board Seventy five cases containing Fifteen hundred strands of Arms … for use by the United States … you will please cause them to be received and deposited in the public stores at Philadelphia …".  Dexter served both in Congress and in the Presidential Cabinets of John Adams and Thomas Jefferson in the capacities of Secretary of War and Secretary of Treasury. Uneven toning but maintains strong, vibrantly contrasting ink. Archival repair to folds on verso of letter.

Philip Francis Thomas, LS, 7.75" x 9.75", dated "July 20th, 1855". Signed by Thomas as "Philip F. Thomas". Bi-fold letter from the Collectors Office, written to front page only with last page noting the release of a Mortgage. Light handling marks with a stray stain, else near fine with a faint embossed seal.

James Guthrie, LS, 4.5" x 7". Originally a bi-fold in which the two pages are now adhered together such it now exists as a single page. Dated "December 23, 1854", and signed by Guthrie as "James Guthrie".

Thomas Corwin, bi-fold LS, 8" x 10". Written to first page, other pages blank, and docketed to verso. Dated "16th November 1850", and signed by Corwin as "Tho Corwin". Page with light toning else near fine.
