Comprised of:

(1) Printed Document Signed, “S. P. Lee”, as Acting Rear Admiral, Commanding North Atlantic Blockading Squadron, 1p, 8.5” x 12.75”, June 10, 1863. Folds, minor soiling, else near Fine condition. From the U.S. Flag Ship "Minnesota", the document begins, “The following general instructions are to be strictly observed by all concerned under my command:", after which 22 numbered instructions are listed. Affixed at the verso, a Printed Document Signed, “S.P. Lee”, 1p, 5” x 8”, April 10, 1863. Soiling, adhesive remnants, vertical fold, chipped and curled at edges, else Very Good. The document is headed “Circular” and quotes an extract from a letter from the Navy Department, “It is the duty of the Paymaster to make out the quarterly muster-roll complete, including the descriptive list of each man.”

(2) Printed Document Signed, “S. P. Lee”, as Acting Rear Admiral, Commanding North Atlantic Blockading Squadron, 1p, 5” x 8”, March 16, 1863. Forwarding an extract from a March 14, 1863 letter from G.V. Fox, Lincoln’s Acting Secretary of the Navy, "in reference to the proceedings of a Summary Court-Martial". Affixed to a 7” x 9.75” page. Unevenly cut bottom edge, soiling, adhesive remnants, vertical fold, else Very Good. At verso, a General Order from Secretary of the Navy Gideon Welles, December 12, 1862, relating to “Nautical Instruments furnished to vessels of the Navy”.

Samuel P. Lee (1812-1897) was the grandson of Signer of the Declaration of Independence Richard Henry Lee and third cousin of Confederate General Robert E. Lee.

All items will ship with signature required, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.
