Lincoln Abraham

(1) Strands of Abraham Lincoln’s hair given to Mrs. Caroline Wright, wife of Indiana Gov. Joseph A. Wright, after Lincoln’s 1865 inauguration. Sold at a Christie’s auction in 1992 and resold as part of the Christie’s Forbes Collection sale in 2002.

(2) Strands of William H. Seward’s hair given to Mrs. Caroline Wright, wife of Indiana Gov. Joseph A. Wright, after Lincoln’s 1865 inauguration. Sold at a Christie’s auction in 1992 and resold as part of the Christie’s Forbes Collection sale in 2002.

(3) Piece of Lincoln’s deathbed sheet. On the night of April 14, 1865, the mortally wounded President was carried across from Ford’s Theater to a back bedroom in a house owned by William and Anna Peterson. At 7:22 AM, April 15, 1865, Abraham Lincoln died. Charles K. Tuckerman, a frequent visitor to Washington and first U.S. Minister to Greece (1868-1871), took the blood-stained sheet from the bed. A color photocopy of a handwritten note from Tuckerman is present.

Attractively matted together with an image of Alexander Hay Ritchie’s “The Death of President Lincoln” and a printed caption summarizing the above information. Overall size, 10.75” x 13.75” x 0.5”.
