Charles A. Lindbergh's Grandfather's Watch ostensibly gifted to the aviator - It still works!

[CHARLES LINDBERGH (1902-1974)] Dr. Charles Henry Land (1847-1922) practiced dentistry in Detroit, Michigan, from 1871 until his death in 1922. He invented the gold and porcelain inlay system. In 1875, he married Evangeline Lodge of Detroit. They had two children, Charles H. Land. Jr. and Evangeline Lodge Land (1876-1954). In 1901, Dr. Land's daughter Evangeline married lawyer Charles A. Lindbergh, future Republican Congressman from Minnesota (1907-1917). Their son, aviator Charles A. Lindbergh, Jr. was born in 1902.

The gold watch here offered has a black strap gilt-lettered "real leather / made in England." Each strap is three inches long. The face of the watch is approximately 3/4 " by 3/4" with left and right curved edges. Manufacturer unknown, it is numbered on verso 4467380. Owned by Dr. Charles Henry Land, the letters "C.H.L." are engraved on verso. It still works!

Accompanied by a statement signed "'Ev' Cassagneres," 1 page, 8.5" x 11". On stationery headed "Ev Cassagneres / Ryan Aircraft Historian / Lindbergh / Spirit of St. Louis Specialist," Cheshire, CT, November 12, 2007. In full, "This wrist watch (mfg unknown) is apparently serial number 4467380, and has the initials C.H.L. on the back. The C.H.L. would stand for Charles Henry Land, who was Charles A. Lindbergh's grandfather. Mr. or Doctor Land was known as the 'Father of Porcelain Dentistry'."
