"Abstract of Title of the Stranger Gold and Silver Mining Company," 27p, 8" x 12.5", separate sheets. Manuscript copies in county records, certified in 1865, bound together at top with original metal clip. Blue cover sheet tattered, all 27 pages in very fine condition.

Includes:

June 13, 1863. "We the undersigned claim 700 ft on this Quartz Ledge, running 350 ft each way from this Notice, with all of its dips spins, & variations & it shall be known as the Stranger Ledge & Co‰Û_" Includes deeds of specified "Feet in the Stranger Mine" recorded June to August 1863.

Oct. 3, 1863: "The undersigned having this day formed a Corporation for the purpose of Mining, do hereby certify that the name of said Corporation shall be The ‰Û÷Stranger Gold and Silver Mining Company. That the object of said Corporation is to carry on and conduct the business of Mining on that certain Vein or Lode known by the name of The Stranger Quartz Ledge and situated and recorded in the District of Reese River‰Û_" Two 5-cent Internal Revenue stamps affixed certifying that the document is a true copy, dated August 1, 1865, and a second document certifying that there are no judgments against the company, dated September 12, 1865.

Oct. 12, 1863: "Consideration $1.- and Certificates of Stock Conveys: all the right, title and interest of the above Grantors ‰Û_ to the ‰Û÷Stranger Ledge and Company ‰Û_ to the ‰Û÷Stranger Gold and Silver Mining Company'‰Û_"

On Oct. 31, 1864, Nevada was admitted to the Union as the 36th state. An article in the August 25, 1865, edition of "The New-York Daily Tribune," published by Horace "Go West, Young Man" Greeley, refers to California and Nevada as "the Golden and the Silver State."
