8 NY Times Issues from Lee's Surrender to Just Before Lincoln's Assassination
Archive

A fantastic collection of eight newspaper issues of "The New York Times" from Lee's surrender to just before Lincoln's assassination. The group has varying degrees of creasing, toning, light dampstaining, and faint foxing. Some rough edges and small edge tears. It appears they were unbound from a larger volume, with some light wear to the edges. Overall very good. Please refer to the photographs for further condition information.

Each issue is 8pp (one issue uncut), measuring 15.5" x 20.75", New York, dated April 2-13, 1865. In three bound sets: April 2 and 3; April 5-7, and April 11-13. The papers detail continuing news of the Union victories at the war's end and celebrations throughout the country.

Highlights include:
April 3, 1865, Volume XIV, No. 4219: "Victory! Official Dispatches from President Lincoln, General Grant and Secretary Stanton…Grant and Lee Personally Directing Their Forces. Capture of Twelve Thousand Prisoners and more than Fifty Pieces of Artillery"

April 7, 1865, Volume XIV, No. 4223: "The Rebel Rout. Lee's Retreat Cut Off by Sheridan. Burkesville in Our Possession.
