Virginius H. Rodes (1824-1879) served as an aide-de-camp to his brother, General Robert E. Rodes, during the Civil War and reached the rank of Lieutenant. Following his brother's death in the fall of 1864, Rodes resigned from the army and became a merchant and planter. Edmund Pendleton (1823-1899) graduated from VMI in 1842 and enlisted as a Colonel when the Civil War broke out. He served in the 3rd and 15th Louisiana Regiments before he was captured at the Seven Days Battles. He was held as a POW until August 5, 1862, but was soon after wounded in the ankle at the Battle of Antietam. He suffered several other illnesses, injuries, and absences throughout 1863-1864, but rejoined his unit in 1865 and commanded the 15th Louisiana Infantry at Appomattox. After the war, Pendleton became an attorney and Virginia state senator.
