Description:

Iron Meteorite
recovered near Agoudal, Morocco, ca. 2000
494g Agoudal Iron Meteorite Slice, With Space Collective COA
Other

This is a genuine Agoudal iron meteorite slice weighing approximately 494g. The irregularly shaped specimen is striking in its appearance: the sample was cut, polished, and acid-etched to reveal the natural crystalline structure of nickel-iron metal within. The metallic surface of graduating silvers and grays is marked through by distinct dark veins. The meteorite slice measures approximately 228.6mm x 127mm x 3.175mm, or 9" x 5" x .125." Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from The Space Collective, which provides its name, find/fall date, recovery location, weight, and classification type as Iron-Nickel IIAB. The item comes with a Lifetime Guarantee of Authenticity provided by The Space Collective (Benson, Arizona).

This slice was cut from the Agoudal iron meteorite discovered in 2000 near the village of Agoudal, Morocco, in the Atlas Mountains. Classified as an IIAB iron meteorite, it formed over 4.5 billion years ago within the metallic core of a differentiated asteroid. The mottled and veined appearance of the meteorite slice shows the results of two processes: the natural internal crystal structure of nickel-iron metal formed during extremely slow cooling in Space; and distinct veins which formed along fractures from ancient impact events on the meteorite's parent asteroid, where stresses within the metal produced cracks later altered by minerals and oxidation. These features, combined with the preserved metallic structure of the meteorite, provide a record of both the asteroid's slow cooling and the violent collisions that occurred during the early history of the solar system.

Agoudal meteorites have been extensively studied, and its characteristics thoroughly documented. A full composition analysis is available to view on the Lunar and Planetary Institute website, specifically the Meteoritical Society/Meteoritical Bulletin online database.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
