(3) Original NASA Items Incl. Ultrasonic Wireless Instrumentation System Used To Detect Leaks!
Relic

This lot includes:

1. An Ultrasonic Wireless Instrumentation System developed for NASA by Invocon, Inc. The device, used for the purpose of leak detection and location determination, was Class I flight hardware. The device used sensors to autonomously monitor for leaks in pressurized vehicles. Using an internal low power source and wireless RF communication, it can monitor a habitation structure using a network of these sensors. While some units were flown on the ISS, this unit was not flown. Parts decal indicates Ultra WIS Sensor Assembly NASA Part #IVC1731025-701 s/n 1018. A JSC Parts Tag, static bag, and disposal label are included. Antenna is included. Downgraded to Class III at time of disposal. NASA cost was $5,500. Purchased as NASA surplus. Assembled, the device measures approximately 10" x 4" x 1.25"; currently disassembled for storage.

2. ISS Dashpot Bracket Assembly Dashpot Bracket Assembly, manufactured by Airpot Corp., used to ensure astronauts maintained their muscular strength through weight-lifting. NASA part #SEG52100665-301 s/n 1027 is an off-the-shelf component of the Vibration Isolation System (VIS). Airpot dashpots were chosen for their simple design, use of an inert working fluid (air), adjustability, and advertised long life. The dashpots act to dissipate energy in the system by reacting to motion with a force proportional to velocity. The VIS & Advanced Resistive Exercise Device (ARED) were flown to the ISS aboard STS-126 (ULF2) in November 2008. Assembly occurred during ISS Expedition 18 over 4 days in late 2009. This Dashpot, originally a Class I flight spare, was downgraded to Class II, and later disposed of as NASA surplus. JSC Parts Tag, parts bag with disposal and parts labels included, and information from NASA about Dashpot. Condition is fine. Measures approximately 8.75" high. NASA info provided, including an article by Jason H. Niebuhr and Richard A. Hagen, "Development of the Vibration Isolation System for the Advanced Resistive Exercise Device."

3. NASA flight 25' Ethernet Cable part #SED39129317-301 serial number 5021. Cable is contained in original NASA static parts bag with disposal label and JSC Parts Tag. NASA cost was $250. Cable was Class I flight downgraded to Class III at time of disposal. Unknown if flown. Measures approximately 11.24" diameter coiled.
