25 Apollo VIII Photographs Compiled by Contractor Apollo Engineer, Most NASA Red Number Images
Archive

A fine group of 25 photographs from the Apollo 8 mission, including 20 NASA red number images. The photos include 16 pre-flight images, and 9 taken inflight, and the group contains two desirable Earthrise images - one is 8" x 10" (no red number) and the other 7.5" x 8" (red number). Other photos are 8" x 10". Together with a few related articles and an official NASA portrait of the crew bearing autopen signatures.

Condition varies: some images exhibit very slight water damage which is confined in most part to the verso; others have dusting within blank margins and subtle indications of wear. Overall very good. NB: the larger of the Earthrise images does not bear a NASA red number. Both exhibit a bit of water damage to verso; still nice images. The images and clippings are housed in a white binder labeled Apollo 8 which has been collected, notated and stored by a NASA contractor engineer.

The Apollo 8 Mission, which took place between December 21 and 27, 1968, was the first crewed spacecraft to venture past Earth's low orbit and was the first human spaceflight to reach the Moon. The crew, made up of astronauts Frank Borman, James Lovell, and William Anders, orbited the Moon ten times before departing safely back to Earth. It was during this trip that Anders captured the iconic Earthrise photograph.
