A superb pair of signed items by 20th century entertainers:

1.) Sir Alec Guinness (1914-2000). Signature, "Best wishes, Alec Guinness / 1984", in red ink on a pale blue deckled edge notecard measuring 6" x 4". Blank verso. Isolated toning at margins. In fine condition.

Guinness was an English actor, ranked as one of the100 most important British film actors of the 20th century by the British Film Institute. His role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original "Star Wars" trilogy, beginning in 1977 with "Star Wars", brought him worldwide recognition to a new generation. He won an Academy Award, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe and a Tony Award. In 1959, Guinness was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for services to the arts. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960, the Academy Honorary Award for lifetime achievement in 1980 and the BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award in 1989.

2.) Rudy Vallée (1901-1986). A 10.375" x 13.25" sepia-toned, gelatin silver studio portrait of the legendary crooner seated and dressed in a dark suit. Signed and inscribed: "To Roy H. Boaz / One of the finest men I have ever come to know in recording! / Phonographically Rudy Vallée". Photographed by Hal Phyfe, with his name embossed at bottom left recto and his backstamp at verso. Curling to photograph. Edge and corner wear with some silvering at lower right and bottom. Pencil notation and soiling at verso. In very good condition.

Vallée was an American singer, saxophonist, bandleader, and actor, and one of the first modern teen idol pop stars of his day. He rose from local radio broadcasting in New York City to become one of the first "crooners". The term originated in the 1920s and describes the smooth, intimate singing style of a performer. Vallée was an inspiration for future singers such as Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby.

Unless otherwise indicated, we do our own in-house world-wide shipping!

Applicable shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice. We offer several shipping options, and remain one of the few auction houses that proudly provides professional in-house shipping as an option to our clients. All items will ship with a signature required option, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.

Third-Party Shipping Option: If a third-party shipper is preferred, the buyer is responsible for contacting them directly to make shipping arrangements. For your convenience, we have provided some recommended shippers. For your protection, we will require a signed release from you, confirming your authorization for us to release your lots to your specified third-party. At that point, our responsibility and insurance coverage for your item(s) ceases. Items picked up by third-party shippers are required to pay Connecticut sales tax. Items requiring third-party shipping due to being oversized, fragile or bulky will be denoted in the item description.
