Description:

Kennedy John

Rare PSA slabbed ticket to an exclusive reception for “The Distinguished Ladies Attending the Inauguration” graded by PSA as “Full Mint 9”. The green ticket, with eight rows of black type face, permitted bearer to attend an afternoon gathering at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. In near fine condition and apparently unused. The actual ticket measures 5.375” x 3.375” and the slab measures 7.25” x 4.25”.

As the title of this reception suggested, invitees were prominent women who were also invited to attend John F. Kennedy’s inauguration ceremony to be held two days later. First Lady-to be Jacqueline B. Kennedy (1929-1994), Second Lady-to be Lady Bird Johnson (1912-2007), and environmentalist activist Rachel Carson (1907-1964) were among the guests. Jackie Kennedy’s interest in art history, which she studied first at Vassar College and then at George Washington University, might explain why a prestigious art museum was selected as the reception venue.

John F. Kennedy (1919-1963) was inaugurated as the 35th U.S. President two days later, on Friday, January 20, 1961 in a ceremony also attended by his running mate and 36th U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson (1908-1973). Two years and 306 days into his one and only presidential term, JFK was assassinated in Dallas.
