12 Civil War Tokens, ca. 1863-65

A diverse collection of Civil War-era coins minted between 1863 and 1865, consisting mainly of store cards and patriotic tokens. Five pieces have been encased in docketed protective seals. Varying degrees of wear, including rubbing and light scratching present throughout. Please see the accompanying photos for further details. Overall, very good.

The lot includes:

1.) Group of 5 "Indian Head" pennies, .75" in diameter. The majority were minted in 1863, three of which were created by private companies in New York, with the exception of one minted in 1865.

2.) "Stand by the flag" 1863 token, .75" in diameter. Front shows the American flag with image of a cannon on reverse amid the words "Peace Maker".

3.) "Time is Money/ Exigency" 1863 token, .75" in diameter. From the Hussey's Special Message Post in New York, reverse shows a rider on a galloping horse.

4.) "Yankee Robinson/ The Great Comedian" token, undated [ca. 1863], .75" in diameter. Front shows image of a man in a stovepipe hat holding a gun, reverse declares "Yankee Robinson's Big Show" depicting a triad of "Past, Present, Future".

5.) "United We Stand" 1863 token, .75" in diameter. From the Broas Brother's Pie Bakery, reverse shows a pie with the words "Our County" at middle.

6.) "Knickerbocker Currency" 1863 token, .75" in diameter. Front has the image of a man walking left with a speech bubble saying "Go it buttons" and the phrase "Money Makes the Mare go" along perimeter.

7.) "Trade and Commerce" 1863 token, 1" in diameter. Shows figure pointing left with image of a trade ship on reverse.

8.) 1865 two cent piece, .875" in diameter. Minted following the end of the Civil War, features the seal of the United States with above banner inscribed "In God We Trust".

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.

Unless otherwise indicated, we do our own in-house worldwide shipping!

Applicable shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice. We offer several shipping options, and remain one of the few auction houses who proudly provides professional in-house shipping as an option to our clients. All items will ship with signature required, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.

Third Party Shipping Option: If a third party shipper is preferred, the buyer is responsible for contacting them directly to make shipping arrangements. For your convenience, we have provided some recommended shippers.
