 Arguably the best content Ford letter extant, the former President writes to Ron Nessen, his former press secretary, “As you well know 1974 was a very tragic period in American history...” He thanks Nessen for the op-ed piece he had written comparing his succession to the presidency after Nixon resigned and his narrow loss to Jimmy Carter two years later with what was then going on in the country, two weeks after the still undecided Bush-Gore presidential election.
