War of 1812 hero Lewis Warrington signature along with a commemorative medal honoring his achievements

Clipped Signature, signed "Warrington" under a stamp reading "Bureau of Yards & Docks". Dated "April 29, 1949" on the plaque at the bottom of the frame. 1.75" x 3.5" in very fine condition. War medal included in the frame above the signature.

Lewis Warrington was an officer in the United States Navy during The Barbary Wars and The War of 1812. He is most famous for being the celebrated Master Commandant of the sloop-of-war known as Peacock where he received his Congressional Gold Medal after defeating British brig known as Epervier. The exchange between the two ships took over 45 minutes and the British ship lost 10 times as many men as Warrington did even though Peacock was a much smaller ship.
