Fort McRae, New Mexico vouchers issued during Indian Wars

Two certified vouchers dating from the weeks ending February 15, 1868 and February 22, 1868, issued at Fort McRae, New Mexico and signed by Lieutenant of the 38th Infantry of the U.S. Army, S.R. Stafford as "S.R. Stafford, Lieut. 38 U.S. Infantry, A.A.Q.M." Both documents hand-inscribed on cream paper with red printed ledger margins measuring 7.75" x 9.75". Docket information verso. In near fine condition with expected paper folds.

Fort McRae was established April 3, 1863 to protect travelers along the so-called "Jornoda del Muerto" to stop Indian attacks.
