Michael Collins Writes to the Charles Lindbergh Fund Committee

Single page typed letter signed, 8" x 10.5", on letterhead of National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution. Dated "January 6, 1977". Signed by Michael Collins as "Mike". Fine condition.

A lovely letter assisting the The Charles Lindbergh Memorial Fund Committee with the event noting that both Neil Armstrong and possibly Mr. Ripley will be attending. However there is a scheduling conflict for him as "I'm going to be doing my annual two weeks of Reserve military duty … and hence will not be available …"

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission that put humans on the Moon. Apollo 11 astronaut Michael Collins has said that despite not walking on the Moon, he was "thrilled" with the seat he had. Collins orbited the Moon in the command module Columbia, and was also in charge of the mission to bring the three men home to Earth.
