Ludwig Bemelmans, Signed Presentation Book with a Drawing, to Harold Gould of Gould Paper

The Viking Press, New York 1938, First Edition, First Printing: Boldly inscribed with a drawing in felt tip by Bemelmans to Harold Gould, founder of Gould paper. Ludwig Bemelmans and Harold Gould both resided in New York at the time and had a connection via the publisher/printer. In addition to inscribing the book to Harold, Bemelmans including a charming large drawing on the half title page of a Pedro (the main character in the book) as depicted on the last page of the book.

The book has paper boards with an image of Pedro and the chickens in the front. The boards are in nice condition with light overall toning, but with some corner wear to the board tips. Internally the book is clean with crisp pages with no writing, no bent pages, and no stains. Stunning signed and dated drawing, rendered in black felt tip to Harold Gould. Beautiful book with many illustrations by Bemelmans. Without scarce original jacket.

A rare signed, presentation copy of an early title with an original drawing by Ludwig Bemelmans. A wonderful piece offering a bit of history from that time period. Presents very well.
