King George III Signed Document With Reference to Charles O'Hara

A lovely King George III signed document as an order to pay John Smith the "sum of Two Shillings and four pence a day for his half pay as Reduced Lieutenant of our said Regiment," with a notable reference to  Major General Charles O'Hara, who had the unique special distinction of surrendering personally to both George Washington and Napoleon Bonaparte. General O'Hara represented the British at the surrender of Yorktown on 19, October 1781, as Cornwallis' adjutant, when he pleaded illness, where by  O'Hara was later exchanged and sent to the Caribbean. Ten years later he had the special opportunity to repeat a significant surrender, but this time to Napoleon in 1793, when he was captured at Fort Mulgrove in France. O'Hara was imprisoned and threatened with the guillotine.

King George III  was born in London on June 4, 1738. He was the son of Frederick, Prince of Wales, and the grandson of George II. He succeeded his grandfather in 1760, his father having died in 1751. George III was the first of the House of Hanover to be born and educated as an Englishman. He had high but impractical ideas of kingship. George III was the longest reigning of the male British monarchs. George III was king of Great Britain and Ireland and presided over the loss of the American colonies. Although never an autocratic monarch, George III was always a powerful force in politics. He was a strong supporter of the war against America, and he viewed the concession of independence in 1783 with such detestation that he considered abdicating his throne.

An excellent example of a George III signed document with a fantastic reference.
