From Wilmington, Delaware, Jacob Broom's Quaker background prevented him from active service during the American Revolution, he contributed to the cause in other valuable ways. After the Revolution, he was chosen to represent the State at the Annapolis Convention. He is one of only four signers of the U. S. Constitution never to have served in Congress.
