Chaim Weizmann

Chaim Weizmann writes to Rabbi Yitzhak Meir Levin, a future member of the First Cabinet of Israel.

Typed letter signed "Chaim Weizmann", 1 page, 5" x 7", on The Jewish Agency for Palestine letterhead, in Hebrew, Jerusalem, January 12, 1945. Weizmann (1874-1952), the first president of the State of Israel, writes to Israel Declaration of Independence signer Rabbi Yitzhak Meir Levin concerning a meeting.

In full: "The Honorable Rabbi Yitzhak Meir Levin, International Order of Agudath Yisrael, P. O. Box 326, Jerusalem 12 Jan 1945 - Greatly Honored Rabbi, I herewith acknowledge with thanks receipt of your letter of 22 Teveth 5705 [January 7, 1945] which was included The Jewish Agency in Jerusalem. I will be happy to meet with you and to converse/discuss, but I am in Rehovot practically all the time and I don't want to trouble you to come to Rehovot. I propose, therefore, that we meet during the time of my upcoming visit to Jerusalem and I will let you know in advance in order to set a time that's convenient for his honor. With blessings (signed) Chaim Weizmann".

Following the establishment of the State of Israel in 1949, Levin served as Minister of Social Welfare in Weizmann's cabinet. Rust staining from a paperclip and two binding holes at the right edge.
